It’s not an essay about the title above. It’s about a monthly online meeting that diskusi.buku had 3 weeks ago. It was started when we discussed the upcoming book club theme. My friends are mostly tech-freaks who love to talk about the development of technology and all surrounding it. I, on the other hand, living under a stone, don’t have any clue on how to start a conversation about it but love to hear anything new and fascinating. My friends are always talking about Elon Musk. We, as commoners, are amazed at how Elon Musk’s mind works. He’s so genius and we thought that tiny size of bad luck and unfortunate incidence might turn him into a real-life Lex Luthor. Furthermore, we also love talking about how the future might bring to us. It’s all about uncertainty in which leads to possibility. Yet for some people, uncertainty causing them to feel anxiety and panic. The feeling of perplexed on how to face the fast-paced world. We love to take a look at what others think and feel about this phenomenon, that’s why we chose the theme for our book discussion.

I brought a book about A.I. in the medical field. It was Deep Medicine by Eric Topol. I’ve always skeptical about the use of A.I. in the medical field because no matter how much you’ve trained A.I., it will never reach a human’s compassion to treat a patient. I know that A.I.’s ability on treating the patient will surpass any human’s that will ever have and its possibility is limitless. But compassion is the main problem. Now, after I finished the book, I learned that the main reason A.I. is here is that lot of patients have a problem on how medical doctor have a lesser time to interact with them, even though, sometimes they come to the clinic just to see the doctor, share their problem, and expect the doctor to listen to their story. They really count on us. But the reality is, especially in this BPJS era, the doctor only has up to 15 minutes to see the patients because of the excessive number of patients who have to be treated in a day. A.I. is made to ease the doctor’s burden, to make the doctor have a lot of interaction time with the patient. Just let the A.I. do the hard job such as diagnosing the patients because we know that A.I. is much smarter than us, the human being. But, let say, the A.I. machine has finally diagnosed a patient, doctor should cross-check the result with their knowledge because a trained sailor will know the sea by their heart. Feelings sometimes can be a powerful tool for diagnosing a patient. It was such a mind-opening book and reminds me of the fact that dystopian genre book is might closer than it seems.
